OUR CONTRIBUTION
In addition to producing choice grade dried fruit of the highest quality at a top farming enterprise, Dried Fruit Direct is also very much commited towards the well-being of our community and environment.
Contribition towards this have thus became a priority.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONTRIBUTION
Dried Fruit Direct’s production facilities have been recently converted to make use of clean renewable energy by utilising solar energy. This is an alternative to the traditional energy that relies on fossil fuels, and it tends to be much less harmful to the environment.
By doing this, Dried Fruit Direct now utilises 45% of all its electrical operations at the production facility through renewable energy. This is also inline with other projects on the farm to become more aware and make use of alternative options to increase our ecological footprint in the near future.
JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Dried Fruit Direct also contributes to the economy of the local community through its involvement with the Waboomsberg Conservancy. We drive a project to remove alienated plant species from the area by using the unwanted plants to create heat energy for our tunnel-dried products in the drying facility.
Dried Fruit Direct encourages the local entrepreneurs to help remove the alienated plant species by financially reimbursing them by purchasing fire wood.
WABOOMSBERG CONSERVANCY
Through its farming division Waboomsberg Farming, Dried Fruit Direct is heavily involved with the newly established, Waboomberg
Conservancy.
Mr. Daniel Conradie has proclaimed a considerable part of his arable land to conservation and is helping to reverse the degradation of the surrounding ecosystem to regain its ecological functionality and restoring the land to its original pristine state.
The conservancy consists of a group of farmers who, with the aid and guidance of WWF, are working towards restoring the mountain to its original pristine condition. Together with local farmers and community members, the first project of the Waboomsberg Conservancy is to remove and manage all alien vegetation. The second project, once the alienated plants have been removed, will focus on fixing and preventing water erosion damage as well as restoring original waterways in the mountain.
KOELFONTEIN CRECHE & AFTER-SCHOOL FACILITY
Dried Fruit Direct is very aware of their responsibility towards the community and social development in that community. Dried Fruit Direct has been involved with the Koelfontein crèche & after-school care facility since its doors opened. We believe that our future lies in the youth and therefor would like to create an environment where there are a preschool and after-school care facility for the children of our community.
Today our staff can prepare our choice grade world class products with the ease of mind, knowing that their children are safe and cared for in a proper way. By donating a substantial contribution to this facility annually, we can proudly say that the children of our community are well looked after.
